To get divorced in Texas you need to be a resident of the State for six months. You need to be a resident of the county for 90 days. If you dont meet these residency requirements then we cannot file a divorce for you. If you do meet these requirements then we can file. Once we file the divorce petition, there is a mandatory waiting period of 60 days. We cannot legally get you divorced prior to that date without permission of the court.
Once your divorce is on file, you will need to have the other side served. Once service is complete the other side has a certain amount of time to file a response to the court. If they fail to file a response then you can obtain a divorce by default. If they file an answer generally the court will send out a docket control order which will give you deadlines for which both sides must follow. If you follow the deadlines and file all the appropriate motions then when your trial date comes you can obtain your divorce.
